Actually there are 54 FLP-certified farms in six countries: Chile, Ecuador, Germany, Kenya, Portugal and Sri Lanka. On these farms work over 13.000 employees. The total production area is around 1.300 hectares.

The implementation of FLP Standard is checked on a yearly base by independent audit organisations. Furthermore FLP conducts unannounced spot checks by random choice. Farms that produce according to FLP-standards may sell their products with the Flower Label. They become member in FLP Association and are represented in the Board of Directors by two representatives (one from South America one from Africa) and one vote.

The last new entry is the 8.5 hectar farm Asian Cuttings from Sri Lanka. It passed the FLP audit sucessfully in December 2009. The farm produces cut foliage, euphorbia milii and various types of pot plants. Nearly one hundred persons, two thirds of them female, did find a decent work place in Asian Cuttings. The farm exports mainly to Germany, Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates.

FLP’s guidelines include also that the farmer assume responsibility for their worker’s children and for adjacent communities. The Kenian FLP-farm Red Land Roses shows how this might look like. The farm managers have built a kindergarden in the neighbouring community. It is not only available for the farm workers’ children but also for the other children of the village. Even the laundry is made here by the staff to diminish the working mother’s tasks. At next a well will be built to shorten the long way to water supply.
