Ecuador: Workshops against violence against women

This year FLP cooperates with the GIZ and the FES to override domestic violence and to achieve more participation of the workers together with them and the administration of the flower plantations.

A study of the GIZ of the last year confirmed that 56% of the polled female workers suffer physical, psychological or sexual violence by their partners. The main reasons they mentioned were protection of their children and jealousy. The project together with the GIZ within the regional program of ComVoMujer provides for the fact, that integrated workshops on 20 farms are realized from May. It intends to create an awareness for domestic violence (of workers and their committees, managers, doctors and human resources) and to inform about measures and shelters for affected women as well as about their rights and FLP norms.

This year 8 other workshops will be realized on farms for the workers and women committees in cooperation with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, too. This project intends to train them for performing their function as an organ of trust for the workers, the implementation of the FLP norms and looking after their obeying.
