Farms that are certified according to Fairtrade Standard may apply for FLP membership on the base of the FLO-Cert-inspection. This is due to an agreement between FLP and FLP-Cert, the certifiying organisation of the Fair Labelling Organisations. It shall avoid double audits.

 

For producers this brings a lot of advantages:

 

 

> less operating expenses: The majority of FLP-criteria are covered by FLO-standard. Those citeria that are not covered will be checked through FLP by an unannounced spot check. By signing the FLP-contract producers agree with to this procedure.

 

 

> less costs: Producers pay the audit to FLO-Cert. FLO-Cert forwards the audit report to FLP. The FLP-Certifying-Committee decides on the base of this report independently if the production methods match with FLP Standard. The producer pays the member fee to FLP Association but does not pay any extra audit costs.

 

 

> Access to two different channels of distribution: FLP gives access to conventional flower trade and florists while fairtrade-products are distributed in first line via supermarkets and discounters.
